Amager ain't so bad

10 July 2015 by Hazel

We've said it before and we'll say it again and we'll probably be saying it forever, Amager is the up-and-coming foodie district in Copenhagen.

Kaffebaren på Amager

Kaffebaren på Amager is a firm local favourite, and it’s easy to see why... The place and the people are so welcoming, the coffee is brilliant, as are the cakes and the simple daily menu. Appearance is deceiving, the café extends into several cosy rooms underground too - it’s huge!

Baglokalet

Baglokalet is probably byens best kept secret. Located in Sundby football club, this is not the kind of place you'd stumble on by accident but it's worth the bike ride. The menu boasts daily changing specials plus "fast food" aka burgers, hotdogs, fritters, etc. but all made exceptionally well, from scratch (even the bread).

Meyers Bageri

Kanelsnurrer are one of those absolutely Danish things that just don't get better than they do in Denmark, and Meyers do some of the best. Plus, Meyers Pizza next door is absolutely divine!

Magasasa

Cantonese cuisine, inspired by the Hunan province on the Yangtze River, there are now three of these in Copenhagen, and one of them is in Amager!

Wulff Og Konstali

Brunch doesn't get much better than this. Awesome concept of selecting all your items, then they're served on a board. Amazing, juice, coffee, baked goods and lunches too! The lucky locals on Lergravsvej have this right on their doorsteps, but for those who aren't Amager locals, this place is absolutely worth the trip!

Ismageriet

Often voted the city's best ice cream, Ismageriet is situated in the perfect location for a sunny afternoon/weekend bike or hike out to Vestamager, Kalvebod. The small shop it italian-inspired, and small amounts of each gorgeous flavour made throughout the day for absolute freshness. Oh, and it's open - more than other ice cream shops - in winter too!

Ingolfs Kaffebar

It’s kinda hard NOT to love this place, at least just a little bit! Fun and friendly, Ingholfs is a much-loved local hangout, for all times of the day and night!

No 95 En Kaffebar

When biking along Amagerbrogade, you might not instantly spot this hip looking kaffebar. It sits quietly back from the road and lets the people come. It's a locals kinda place, always full of regulars, cosy get togethers, and coffee and stuff.

Amager Olhus

Here you'll find a small but always different selection of great beer on tap, plus some special guests depending on the season. Chilled out place, great glasses, good viiiibes.

Los Andes

"Det Argentinske Vinhus" is one of the first little gems that hits you when cycling from the city down along Amagerbrogade. A great local spot to meet friends after work and kick back with a bottle of Wrath or a glass of quality Argentinian wine.

Jaguaren

This is Jaguaren, one of Amager's most popular bodegas. Full of games, cheap booze, chilled out people and a lax smoking policy, it's easy to see why!
