The mad inception

28 January 2017 by Hazel

Once upon a time, a girl from Bath, England developed a little crush on Copenhagen, so she sold all her shit and moved there. She soon realised that there was more to the city streets, pretty people and colourful brunches than initially met the eye.

Her need to devour (literally) her newly adopted hometown saw her roaming the streets, on the hunt for new places and nibbles to get acquainted with. When she wasn’t out doing this, she would spend ages asking everyone she met, trawling through recommendation sites and various Instagram profiles just to find somewhere to drink her morning coffee.

It occurred to her that to do this every time she wanted to drink a cup of coffee was quite an effort, and she didn’t want everyone else to have to go to the same trouble, but she did want them to drink great coffee. So, on 17th September 2014, she started curating all her findings on Instagram. Enter @madaboutcopenhagen.

It grew, and in the space of 2 years, over 50,000 people were following @madaboutcopenhagen. In April 2016 — still as infatuated with foodie Copenhagen as ever, and full of ideas of mad projects she could do if only she had a little more time — Hazel took the leap and quit her day job, to pursue madness full time. She was soon joined by two of her greatest pals, Antonio and Marie.
